Abstract

The development of sustainable tourism is becoming an increasingly important objective both globally and locally, particularly in developing countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sustainable tourism requires the integration of economic, environmental, and social dimensions, with tourist education playing a key role in its implementation. Educating and informing visitors about environmental protection, waste management, and eco-friendly practices are fundamental steps toward raising ecological awareness. Tourist boards, hotels, and private accommodation providers should actively promote sustainable behavior through brochures, videos, and volunteer initiatives. Furthermore, legal frameworks and infrastructure,
such as recycling stations and green islands, must support these efforts. Tourist motivation through incentives and positive examples also plays a significant role. Research conducted among tourists highlights the need for broader access to educational materials and stronger institutional support for sustainable tourism development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
