The paper explores how the development of environmental awareness and the value of sustainable living is encouraged through the participation of young people in sports activities, starting from a psychological approach to motivation, identity and the adoption of prosocial behaviors. It is emphasized that we observe sport as a strong socialization context in which responsibility, care for the community and solidarity are taught, which can be transferred to the attitude towards the environment. Theoretical models from sports psychology and environmental psychology, the results of previous empirical research and examples of educational and sports programs focused on sustainable development are analyzed. In particular, the role of coaches, peers and the family environment in shaping the environmental attitudes of young people is considered, as well as the ways in which the sense of responsibility for natural resources can be strengthened through sports patterns, team rules and symbolism. It also looks at the role of media and digital platforms in conveying environmental messages related to sport and in shaping the perception of sustainable role models among young people. The obtained knowledge emphasizes how the integration of environmental topics into sports programs can contribute to the formation of stable green identities, greater readiness for environmentally responsible behavior and the development of sustainable lifestyles of young
people.
