Abstract

For many years, the concept of sustainable development has been one of the most mentioned concepts. Sustainable development is the development of society based on social, economic and environmental sustainability. It is an approach to growth and development that aims to meet the needs of of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, At the same time, without diminishing the importance of other sectors, healthcare is one of the most important social sectors because it cares about people's health and lives. Therefore, it is relevant and appropriate to analyze the degree of application of the concept of sustainable development in healthcare, which is also the main goal of this paper. In this way, it will contribute to a better understanding of the mentioned concept and thus contribute to giving more importance to sustainable development in the functioning of health institutions. The descriptive-analytical method of the existing literature on the subject was applied in the paper. The paper identifies the possibility and usefulness of applying sustainable development in health care institutions in order to to strengthen their reputation and improve business results. The paper also proposes recommendations for achieving a higher level of sustainability in the work of healthcare institutions.
